More About Me

About Me

I am a Motivational Interviewing Trainer, Consultant, and Researcher with a Master’s in Social Work from Boston University and my doctorate from the University of Southern California in Preventive Medicine. I have co-authored two book chapters on the application of MI with adolescents and obesity and currently have 4 peer-reviewed journal articles about Motivational Interviewing. I have been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2005. My training and coaching work had been primarily with juvenile and adult probation officers, service coordinators working with families with developmental disabilities, and nurse case managers targeting a wide range of behaviors from checking blood sugar levels to living independently to recidivism.  In 2017, I developed the MI Companion, an online program that focuses on the practice of MI skills. My training program has been used by staff in various fields as well as University-based training programs in Health Science, Nursing and Social Work

Trainer Statement

I enjoy the challenge of working with a new organization to determine how MI fits best into their current practice. Each application of MI is unique and deserves to be treated as such. I like to focus on helping trainees make small changes to what they are currently dong, bringing them closer and closer to the practice of MI. I am available to provide training workshops, coaching (for individuals or groups at your agency,  over the phone, or via skype), or coding (via live observation and recordings).  I am currently providing my "distance learning" training in a 6-week 1x  per week format on zoom. Zoom sessions are heavily focused on skill rehearsal, while didactic material and practice exercises are shared using the MI Companion modules online.
