Intermediate MI Course January 20th and 21st 2022 Eugene, Oregon

This is a two day Intermediate Level Motivational Interviewing Course. The price is $250 per person or $275 if you would like endorsed CEU's from the Oregon Branch of The National Association of Social Workers. The course will be held on the man campus of Lane Communuty College in Eugene Oregon. Class will run from 9am-4pm each day with two fifteen minute breaks and sixty minute break for lunch. 

This class will cap off at fourteen participants. At this time masks will be required and there will be room for soial distancing. If ths course cannot be held in person due to new COVID restrictions, it will be moved to an online via zoom. 


This class is designed for those who have learned the fundamentals of MI and practiced it over time, and now seek more advanced training in MI. This class will include some analysis of audio or video tapes, more demonstration and practice exercises, and less didactic material. One key element of this intermediate training is on differentiating change talk from commitment language, and learning how to elicit and shape the two.

Prior proficiency and experience in the practice of MI are assumed for those who sign up for an intermediate or advanced class. There will be a gentle expectation for particpants to be willing to particpate in practice exercises. 

After attending an Intermediate and Advanced Classes in Motivational Interviewing (MI)the hope is for participants will be able to:

  • List the key ingredients of the guiding philosophy of MI.
  • Identify the foundational communication skills of MI from demonstrations and video examples.
  • Name advanced MI strategies for eliciting and exploring clients’ own reasons for change in role-play practice exercises.
  • Describe the four processes of MI for navigating clinical conversations in the direction of client change goals.
  • Identify key issues for enhancing confidence & competence in applying the primary skills & strategies of MI into clinical practice.
