Facilitator-led Group

This training will provide a brief review and practice of Motivational Interviewing spirit, structure, and skills followed by a discussion about the group process. Group work provides several important steps that help break the isolation often experienced by the people we serve. This training will also provide information on the issues and treatment for special populations (adolescents, young adults, poverty, gender, addiction, low-income families, parents, etc.) through the use of support groups in treatment. We will also explore the issues of assessment, interaction, group norms, and various forms of support for the people we serve. We will address why the therapeutic support group format is extremely effective. In addition to the role of group leader, the roles of the participants will be discussed and compared in various types of group settings, as well as the importance of therapeutic contracts, goal setting, and group frequency, duration, course, and process. This training will utilize both useful theoretical models and hands-on opportunities to improve skills.
