Abstract

The article presents a discussion on motivational interviewing for probation officers and its benefits. First developed for the field of addictions, motivational interviewing, a method of talking with people about change, has since broadened and introduced to criminal justice in general. Among the reasons why the motivational interviewing approach is to be considered include it aligns with evidence-based practice, can help the officer do behavior change and suggests effective tools for handling resistance.
